Potty Training Day 6 - OLIVIA - THROWING IN THE TOWEL

After this morning I am throwing in the towel.  Overall Olivia is not ready.  She has progressed but I need to leave my house or I am going to go CRAZY!!!!  Even if she was 100% trained on the potty chair I still couldn't take her out because she won't go on a big toilet.  http://www.3daypottytraining.com/ says do not put pull ups on your child or it will confuse them.  I agree but again I need to have a life!  I can't stay in my house 24 hours a day 7 days a week constantly watching to see if Olivia needs to pee. 

Here is how the last 12 hours played out to help me make my decision.

1:40 AM Olivia got herself out of bed and ran to the potty chair.  She didn't make it in time because her underwear was wet but her bed was still dry.  =)

8:45 AM Olivia woke up dry and she said she didn't have to go potty.

Just when I was considering putting a pull up on her...

9:00 AM Olivia said she had to go potty.  (Underwear was still dry) As I was pulling her pants down she started to pee getting  little on her underwear but the rest made it into the chair making it SING!

Geez she is sending me mix signals!

9:10 AM BREAKFAST

10:00 AM I was doing a load of laundry and Olivia told me she pooped her pants. =(

12:00 AM I noticed she was grabbing her underwear which was still dry.  I tried to put her on the potty chair but she threw a fit so I reminded her to let me know when she had to potty.

12:13 PM  She peed her pants and the floor.

DONE!  I put a pull up on her and told her they were big girl pants and she still needs to let me know when she has to go potty.  I will try again in a couple of months when she is ready.

Thanks for the advice from everyone!  You were right and I was wrong! 

Thanks to Steve, Sasha, Melissa, Elizabeth and Jaimee to help me make that final decision.  After Olivia's nap we are leaving the house! =)

I spoke with Sasha this morning and she made a very valid point.  You can't teach a child something if they are not ready to be taught. (I know Anna and my friend Kelly told me this the other day!  I just wanted to give it more time) I can still work on little things.  Graduate her to pull ups for a while and when she shows more interest in the potty chair graduate her back to underwear.

Steve also made another good point.  Maybe if we stop trying she will want to try on her own.

"I can only speak from my experience with my son....we tried when he turned 2 and it was not working! Then at 2.5 we tried again and it was one day of messes and that was it! We haven't had problems since. It was the easiest thing in the world!"

 "I agree with the other 2 girls. I tried with Brady when he was 2 and it was a disaster. Waited until he was almost 3 and it was pretty easy. With Ella, she had really bad diaper rash when she was a little over 2 and I was going to have her just run around with nothing on to get some air to it...she wanted underwear and the rest was history. I would wait and try again in a couple of months. :)"

Julie thanks for your encouragement but unless you want to stay at my house until Olivia is trained no thank you!  I need to get of here!  =)

"Keep going! A lot of people believe that you shouldn't start potty training until the child is 3, and by that time they are already set in their ways and the training takes months to accomplish. She is old enough and she will get this if you keep it up.

Again, watch for her signals and draw attention to the fact that she needs to use the potty. Offer repeated reminders and FLOOD her with praises. Give her the opportunity to initiate the potty trips before you rush in and take over. We want to teach her to monitor her own potty cues, as well as teach her to communicate her need to go potty to you so keep it up. She will come through this.

I see that you are giving M&Ms as a reward, which is wonderful. I like to have something that the child can visually associate with their progress so that they can see how well they are doing. If you have the opportunity, setting up a simple progress sticker chart may help motivate her to do better in making it to the potty so that she can put another sticker on her chart.

I am a firm believer in continuing the training until the child has 'got it', unless of course the child is struggling with negative associations and is resisting the training due to fear, anxiety, etc. If she is willing to work with you, keep it up! You can do this and so can she."

Potty Training Day 5 - OLIVIA

Finally!!!!!!

Keep training or pull the plug?  Positives from today: Olivia is waking up dry from nap and bed time and....she finally went poop on the potty and we didn't have to change her underwear!!  Negatives: she is still wetting her pants before she makes it to the bathroom.  If anyone has suggestions on how I can get her to the bathroom in time I am all ears.  I also have a feeling she might not be able to read her body's signals.  I am trying to teach her to read the signals by rushing her to the potty chair as she is wetting herself in hopes she will finish on the potty. 

DAY 5

Good Morning Sunshine!

=)  7:45 AM  Olivia wakes up dry!  YEAH

She would not sit on the potty chair so I didn't force her.

=(  8:15 AM As we are eating breakfast she starts peeing.  Why is she not telling me when she starts to pee? 

#1 NEW UNDERWEAR

10:40 AM Olivia says she has to pee.  She came and told me. =)  However she is a little wet.  I put her on the big toilet and this upset her so I put her on the potty chair and ....nothing! =(  She would stand up and I could see pee trickeling down her leg so I put her back on the potty chair.  She is crying at this point saying she is all done.

10:47 AM She is crying again saying she is all done.  When I ask if she still has to go potty she changes her mind and says she would like to be left alone to keep trying.  I think she has to poop because she did not poop yesterday or today.

11:10 AM  She is still on the potty...nothing.  =(

#2 NEW UNDERWEAR
During this time I was talking with my good friend Sasha and I thought it might be a good idea to bring Olivia to her house tomorrow.  Why?  Because her daughter Savannah is nine months older then Olivia and is going potty on a regular toilet.  This way Savannah can show Olivia the ropes.  Olivia is more motivated by kids her own age.  I could tell she was way more interested in potty training when her cousins were rooting on Sully.  Without Cullen, Avery, Addison and Sully I need to find more cheerleaders! Tomorrow we are headed to the Speikers for a potty training lesson with Savannah!

12:00 PM Lunch

1:15 PM Olivia says she has to go potty and this time her underwear is completely dry.  I put her on the potty...wait...and nothing.  She says she is all done.

1:20 PM NAP TIME  (I am extremely nervous because Olivia has not gone potty since 10 AM this morning)

3:20 PM Olivia wakes up dry!

I tried to get her to potty and she did not want to sit on the potty chair.

3:30 PM I noticed she kept grabbing her underwear so I talked her into going potty.  As soon as I pulled down her underwear she started to pee making the potty chair SING! =)  She got a little on her underwear but I caught her right in time.

3:40 PM SNACK

4:30 PM Oliva told me she had to go potty.  Her underwear was still dry.  I put her on the chair and she started to cry.  I left her alone in the bathroom which usually calms her down.  (I don't blame her I wouldn't want anyone to watch me go to the bathroom!=))  15 minutes later I heard Olivia call out.  "ALL DONE!"  Inside the potty chair was a large piece of poop! =)  THANK YOU JESUS!  OLIVIA HAS POOPED IN THE POTTY CHAIR!!!!!  Her underwear was still dry it made it through another round! =)

6:06 PM  Steve and Oliva were playing hide and seek.  Olivia ran in the kitchen and she started dripping pee.  GRRRR!  Steve put her on the potty and....NOTHING! 

7:30 PM Wet her pants. =(

8:30 PM Bed Time

9:30 PM Olivia came running out and said she had to go potty.  She started to pee as we were running back to the bathroom.  =(  She stopped peeing when I put her on the potty chair.  I went to check her bed and it was still dry. =)

I am not sure what to do at this point?  Keep going or try when she is a little older?  My gut still says give her more time....

3 day potty training has now turned into 6!

Potty Training Day 4 - OLIVIA

I am happy to report that the McGee's and my parents are having a fantastic time in Disney World.  After speaking with my mom she said Sully has not had one accident and he is now pooping on the toilet every single time!  My sister and I started training Sully a few weeks ago but I did the 3 day potty training with him last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  His potty training journey began here.  Sully is 30 months old today!  My sister is still keeping a diaper on him at night but overall I would say Sully is a success!  He did have 3 weeks potty prior to using the 3 day potty training method but some of the concepts we used during those three weeks were very similar to 3 day potty training.

Day 4  Potty Training for Olivia I did something differently. I did not give her liquids all the time. I kept her diet and meals very similar to the normal day to day diet that she is use to.  This means she had less opportunities to use the potty.  She is still not making it to the potty in time but she is starting to tell me when she has to go potty.  Just a recap.  Olivia is 22 months old and her journey began here using http://www.3daypottytraining.com/.

It is 7:40 AM as I write this post I went to check on Olivia and she is still dry.  Three night in a row she has stayed dry.  I am starting to believe she is night time trained. =) 

DAY 4

5:30 AM Checked Olivia ....she was dry!  Yeah!

7:00 AM Olivia came out on her own and peed on the floor.  BOO!  I went to check her bed and it was completely dry.  Yeah!

10:40 AM She started running towards me and said she had to pee.  Put her on the potty and a little got into the potty chair.  Yeah!

1:15 PM Olivia FINALLY told me on her own she had to go potty.  She wet her pants a little so I put her on the potty chair and little got in to the chair.  Yeah!

4:45 PM Olivia woke up from nap..DRY!  She said she didn't have to go potty.

5:45 PM Olivia kept grabbing her crotch so I would try to put her on the potty and she didn't want to go.  I knew she had to go so I turned on the water in the sink hoping this might trigger something.  She started dripping pee so I put her on the potty and SINGING!  The running water helped to release all of her pee this time.  I have never seen this much pee at once go in the potty chair.  5 M&M's!  YEAH!

6:00 PM Dinner

7:00 PM BATH TIME!

OLIVIA LOVES COLORED WATER!

7:30 PM  I gave Olivia a chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven for going potty! =)

8:30 PM  Put her in bed with some books to see if she would come out and poop.

9:00 PM I could tell she had to go potty so I put her on the potty.  It took her a couple of minutes but I heard SINGING!

Olivia would not go  to bed!  I tried laying down and she kept coming in to our room.  Finally, I had enough and pretended like I was asleep.  No joke Olivia walked around the house for an hour with all the lights off.  She finally went to bed at 11:30 PM.  When I went in to her room she was half on and half off her bed.

Olivia did not go poop at all today and I would say she still is not potty trained....
